Long black wavy HD lace wig handcrafted by Adelé Atelier

How to Choose Your Adelé Wig

Every Adelé unit is made to sit naturally on you. But the right wig isn't the most expensive one, or the one that looked perfect on someone else. It's the one made for where you're going and how you actually live.

This guide is in three parts:

  1. Choose by occasion: our exact recommendation for brides, the office, events, holidays and your first wig.
  2. The choices, step by step: lace, parting, texture, length, density, colour and cap size.
  3. Atelier notes: the things most wig sellers won't tell you.

Part one: Choose by occasion

Start with one question: where is she taking you? The wig you'd choose for your wedding is very different from the one you'd wear to work on a Tuesday.

The bride

Our recommendation: 13x6 HD lace frontal · 20–24" · 350% density · body wave or sleek straight · Noir or Cacao

Your wedding day hair has to do everything: a sleek bun for the ceremony, hair down for portraits, a high ponytail when you dance. A frontal gives you lace from ear to ear, and a 13x6 is the best choice for the most natural hairline. Its deeper lace lets you part your hair further back and wear it up, so your hairline looks natural from every angle, including the side-profile shots your photographer will take.

  • Order at least 8 weeks before the wedding. Your unit is made to order (15–20 business days), and you'll want time for a trial.
  • Do a trial install 2–3 weeks before, ideally with your makeup artist, so the lace and foundation are perfectly matched.
  • Install 1–2 days before the day, not the morning of. The lace settles and lays flatter overnight.
  • Choose 350% density, not 450%. It photographs full but still moves when you do.
  • Choose a colour you'll love in photos for decades. Rich, natural shades age beautifully in wedding albums.

The everyday office wig

Our recommendation: 6x6 or 9x6 HD lace · glueless · 16–20" · 280–300% density · straight or soft body wave · Noir, Ébène or Mink

Your Monday-to-Friday wig should look polished in a meeting and take less than 15 minutes to put on. That means less lace to manage, a glueless fit you can take off at night, and a natural density that looks like your own hair, not a red-carpet blowout.

  • A 9x6 lets you switch between a middle and side part. A 6x6 is the quickest install of all.
  • 16–20 inches feels luxurious but stays light enough for 10 hours at a desk.
  • Lower density is cooler and lighter, which matters on an 8am train in a Sydney January.
  • Want colour without it being the first thing people notice? Our deep browns give you dimension that still feels professional.

Church, christenings and formal occasions

Our recommendation: 9x6 · 18–22" · 350% · sleek straight or a defined body wave · Cacao, Mink or Noir

Polished, elegant and timeless. A neat side part with soft movement looks refined without feeling plain. Rich browns are a beautiful step up from black: noticeable, but never loud.

Birthdays, events and big nights out

Our recommendation: 9x6 or 13x6 · 22" and longer · 400–450% density · body wave or curls · the shade you've been saving for months

This is the wig that doesn't need to make sense on Monday. Go longer, go fuller, go lighter. Champagne, Caramel and Amber all come alive under evening light and camera flash, and high density photographs beautifully.

Holidays and Australian summer

Our recommendation: 6x6 or 9x6 glueless · 14–18" · 280–350% · straight or body wave

Think about where you're going and how you'll spend the day.

  • Heat and humidity relax curls faster, and longer, heavier hair drops the curl even quicker. A slightly shorter, lighter unit holds its shape from breakfast to the beach to dinner.
  • Lighter shades look completely different in sunshine. Caramel and Champagne glow on holiday, and that's a beautiful time to try them.
  • If you don't want to think about your hair all day, choose a style that still looks good slightly undone. Body wave is perfect.
  • Rinse your unit after salt water or chlorine, and always let it dry fully before you pack it.

Your very first wig

Our recommendation: 6x6 glueless · 16–18" · 280–300% · straight · Noir or Ébène

Start simple. A smaller lace and a natural density are the easiest to install, the most forgiving while you learn, and the most natural-looking from day one.

Part two: The choices, step by step

Once you know where she's going, make these choices in this order. Each one affects the next.

01. Lace size

Start by asking: how much lace do I want to look after? More lace gives you more freedom with your parting and hairline. Less lace is quicker to install and easier to maintain. Neither is better; it depends on how you wear your hair.

6x6 HD lace: the easiest to wear. Perfect for a middle part or a soft side part, quick to install, and a great first wig.

9x6 HD lace: our most-loved balance. Extra depth lets you move your part further to the side while keeping maintenance simple. If you're unsure, choose 9x6.

13x6 HD lace frontal: lace from ear to ear with the deepest parting space, the best choice for the most natural hairline. Choose this if you love a deep side part, a slicked-back look or a high ponytail, and don't mind a little more lace care.

02. Parting

Your parting changes how your whole face reads. Use these as guides, not rules. If you love a look, wear it.

  • Middle part: works with every lace size. It's balanced and symmetrical, and lengthens rounder faces.
  • Side part: adds softness and movement, and balances longer or more angular faces. A deep side part needs a 9x6 or 13x6.
  • Round face: a middle part with length past the shoulders creates a longer line. Very full volume at cheek level adds width.
  • Long or oval face: very long, very straight hair with a flat middle part can make the face look longer. A side part, layers or body wave adds width and balance.
  • Heart-shaped face: a side part with volume around the jaw beautifully balances a narrower chin.

03. Texture

Ask yourself three questions: What can I maintain? What suits my face? What suits my week?

Straight (like our Classic Straight): sleek, polished and the simplest to look after. Ideal if you wear your wig daily, travel often or want a refined look for work.

Body wave (like our Signature Body Wave): soft movement and volume straight out of the box. Wear it full and glamorous, or brush it out for a relaxed blowout.

Curly (like Elan): the most volume and personality. It needs a little more love, as curls should be refreshed regularly to stay defined.

Yaki or kinky straight (like the Ceo Bob): a natural, blown-out texture that blends beautifully with relaxed or pressed natural hair.

04. Length

8–12 inches: bobs and short styles. Effortless, light and ready in minutes.

16–20 inches: the most versatile range. Long enough to style, easy enough for every day.

22 inches and longer: a statement. Beautiful, but longer hair carries more weight and needs more care.

05. Density

Density is how full the hair looks.

280–300%: natural and lightweight, the closest to your own hair. Perfect for everyday.

350%: full and polished, our most popular density.

400–450%: maximum volume and glamour for events, photos and statement looks.

06. Colour: the Adelé shades

Colour is where most people want to start. We recommend choosing it last, once you know your lace, parting, texture and length, and once you've asked: where is she taking me?

  • Noir (natural black) and Ébène (soft off-black): timeless and effortless, and the most natural with every skin tone. Always right for work, church and your first wig.
  • Cacao (deep, cool brown) and Mink (rich, warm brown): colour without the commitment. They catch the light and add warmth, but still feel professional. Perfect if you usually wear black and want people to notice something is different.
  • Sunlit (dark roots with soft, lighter ribbons): our highlights and balayage, the gentle way into blonde. If you keep saving blonde inspiration but full blonde feels like a big jump, start here.
  • Caramel (golden, warm light brown) and Champagne (luminous blonde): a true statement, and beautiful in sunshine and on birthdays and holidays. Lighter hair needs more care, so use heat protectant and a purple shampoo occasionally to keep it bright.
  • Amber (copper and ginger tones): for the woman who wants to be remembered. Stunning for events and photos.

And the most important colour rule: don't choose the colour you think you should be brave enough to wear. Choose the one you'll actually reach for.

07. Cap size

Measure around your head: start at your front hairline, go around behind your ear, across the nape of your neck and back to the start.

  • Small: about 21–21.5 inches
  • Medium: about 22–22.5 inches (the most common)
  • Large: about 23 inches and over

All our caps come with adjustable straps for a secure, comfortable fit.

Part three: Atelier notes

The things most wig sellers won't tell you.

  • Your part can only go as far as your lace. On a 6x6, a deep side part will show the edge of the lace. If you love a dramatic side part, choose 9x6 or 13x6.
  • Length and density add weight on your hairline. A 26" unit at 450% can pull on your edges over a long day. If you wear your wig daily, keep your everyday unit lighter and save the heavy glam for occasions.
  • HD lace is thinner, so it melts better but is more delicate. Always lift it with adhesive remover. Never peel it off dry.
  • The wrong cap size is the most common reason lace lifts. Measure before you order. If you're between sizes, choose the smaller one and adjust the straps.
  • Lighter shades need more care. Caramel and Champagne hair has been lightened, so it needs extra moisture and heat protection to stay soft.
  • Two units last longer than one. Rotating between an everyday wig and an occasion wig gives each one time to rest, so both keep their shape and shine for longer.
  • Plan around production time. Made-to-order units take 15–20 business days before dispatch. For weddings, birthdays and holidays, order at least 6–8 weeks ahead.
